Pitch A Story

Many of our best stories come from listeners who know a great sound story themself, or have the right contact at a sound-related place. Depending on the angle, we might pursue these ideas for our podcast, for our YouTube series, or both!

For context:

Our podcast explores the world's most recognizable and interesting sounds, diving deep into the secrets, stories, and science behind what you hear.

In our Youtube series, Dallas joins audio pros in their creative spaces to break down what they do and how they do it.

If you have a lead on a great sound story in either form, we want to hear it.

What we’re drawn to:

• A well-known sound with a surprising backstory. We love making people say, “I’ve heard that sound a thousand times but never thought about it until now!”

• Sonic concepts, technologies, or disciplines with rich, fascinating rabbit holes.

• Strong central characters (sound designers, engineers, musicians, inventors, scientists…) whose personal journeys carry the episode.

• Stories with lots of emotion (humor, triumph, sadness, mystery, inspiration…) and unexpected twists and turns.

• A place that's rarely (if ever) been filmed: a company, set, museum, venue, factory, studio, or hidden piece of infrastructure with a sound story inside it.

What we’re not looking for:

• Stories without a strong sound or audio angle.

• General topic pitches without a fleshed-out story (eg. “The sounds of Pokémon,” “Acoustic Barriers,” “Audiobook Narrators,” etc.)

• Anything that wouldn’t be appropriate for an all-age audience.

• Pitches for product reviews.
