Our story

When we started back in 2016, we had a mission: to tell the stories behind the world’s most recognizable and interesting sounds. And some 200 episodes later, that mission hasn’t changed.

Along the way we’ve uncovered the sound design behind famous sonic logos from companies like Apple, Netflix, HBO, McDonalds and Microsoft. We’ve found out why whales switched their singing pitch, and how tiny insects make a massive noise. We’ve even solved some sonic mysteries like the source of a strange hum coming from a Canadian island.
Of course, we don’t work alone – we’ve got a ton of friends in the podcasting world. Our collaborators include 99 Percent Invisible, The Happiness Lab, Meditation Story, Strong Songs and more besides. Basically, if you love sound, we’d love to work with you.

We also bring that into the sound design into our podcast, thanks to the team at our sister company Defacto Sound. That’s led to three Webbies and an Ambie, along with a bunch of other accolades from the likes of Adweek, The New York Times and Apple.

Host, Dallas Taylor

Dallas founded Twenty Thousand Hertz back in 2016. Why? Because he had a ton of sound stories to tell, but nowhere to share them. Since then he’s become an audio evangelist, promoting the power of sound on platforms like TED’s Mainstage to the Jordan Harbinger Show.

As well as Host and Executive Producer duties at Twenty Thousand Hertz, Dallas is also the Founder and Creative Director at Defacto Sound. The sound design and mix source for the world's most thoughtful brands, Defacto Sound works with clients like Netflix, HBO, Nike, Disney, HBO and Bose.

Away from the mixing desk, Dallas is a Disney Parks fanatic, a player of video games and lover of jazz. Check out this collaboration with Meditative Story to learn more about his life prior to podcasting.
